Healthy Eating Habits Week 2013



University Housing and the Residence Hall Association have teamed up with the University Health Center, Recreational Sports, CAPS, Eating Disorders Recovery Center of Athens, and a few great student organizations to plan a Healthy Eating Habits Week packed full with great information, tips and advice.

Monday - February 18, 2013

Behind the Scenes: Decoding Media Images
Myers Programming Room, Myers Hall (4:30-5:30pm)

Come to this fun, interactive workshop to learn how to make sense of the media images that bombard us every day.  This workshop will equip you with the tools to understand the hidden messages of beauty in the media, and to create your own values and foster positive body image.

Healthy Exercising
Fireside Lounge, Rooker Hall ECV (5:30-6:30pm)

Whether you're a recreational exerciser or athlete, learn the more about healthy exercising by getting fitness myths busted and gaining tools to enhance your workouts.  Come prepared for interactive demonstrations and a chance to win prizes!

Tuesday - February 19, 2013

Eating healthy inside and outside the dining halls
Creswell Lounge, Creswell Hall (6-7pm)

We will focus on foods to increase, foods to decrease, and balancing calories based off of the USDA’s myplate. Our main focus is to encourage healthy eating in dorm rooms and dining halls. Snacks will be provided!

Crash Dieting

This interactive presentation will review factors and life stressors that contribute to crash dieting, the potential dangers of crash dieting, and healthier alternatives to crash dieting.  It will review the effect that diets have on the body.

Documentary Screening: America the Beautiful

In this investigative and thought-provoking documentary, filmmaker Darryl Roberts reveals how media shapes America’s image of beauty and how this affects our culture.  This film advocates for women and men to accept and love themselves as they are.
